There is a new secular AA group in Kansas City, Missouri, and all of the meetings will be recorded and posted as a podcast. The meeting is located at HJ’s Youth and Community Center at 6425, Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri, and meets every Saturday night at 7:00 pm.
The format features speakers who share their experiences in recovery for about twenty or thirty minutes, followed by group discussion or a question and answer period. The first meeting was held on November 17, 2018 and as of this writing, two out of the three recorded podcasts have been posted on the group’s website secularaaspeaker.org.
Bill W. author of Twelve Secular Steps: An Addiction Recovery Guide was the first speaker. Bill described the three phases of recovery as outlined in his book. The following week, featured Wes B. who is coming up on two years of sobriety and has been a great example of service to both the Freethinkers and the We Agnostics groups in Kansas City. He currently chairs the Saturday noon meeting at We Agnostics. The most recent speaker was Bill H., who got sober in 1967, not far from Dr. Bob’s house. He was friends with one of the first women to find lasting sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous. The question and answer period after his talk was quite interesting.
If you are in the Kansas City Metro, we welcome you to attend the meeting and to bring a friend. All of the meetings are open to anyone interested in attending.
